Harbor Hill Day Camp Programs

Teen Apprentice Program

At Harbor Hills, tenth grade campers are eligible for our Teen Apprentice Program. In camping, we know the Teen years are a prime time for personal development. It is a time of transition. Tenth grade campers no longer see themselves as campers and they are not yet ready to be staff. They want to be challenged, to make a difference and they still want to have fun. At Harbor Hills, Teen Apprentices (TAPS) can have the best of all worlds!

The majority of the day, TAPS will apprentice themselves to outstanding and talented Program Specialists in Arts and Crafts, Cooking, Go-Carts, Sports, Dance and Wonderworks. They become a part of the great team that leads activities and helps campers build skills. For the remainder of the camp day, TAPS function as their own cohesive group. They are mentored at daily debriefing meetings, have lunch, participate in activities together and enjoy the weekly Special Events.

Those young people who would like to participate in this outstanding and exemplary program are asked to make a full commitment for the summer (39 days). Come prepared to have fun, acquire new skills, make friends, expand your creativity and sharpen problem-solving abilities. In short, you will work hard, learn about teamwork and have the satisfaction of knowing you make a difference!

Leaders-in-Training:
Skills to Last a Lifetime.
For soon to be 11th graders.

At Harbor Hills, we know the incredible potential of our teens. Over the years, in our Teen Travel Program, we have witnessed magnificent acts of kindness, generosity, friendship, sharing, humor and initiative. Harbor Hills' Leaders-in-Training (LIT) Program for 11th graders is designed to expand the skills they already naturally possess! LITs gain a fuller and richer perspective on what it means to be a team player as well as a leader at camp.

As members of high-performing teams at camp, LITSs have a wide range of opportunities to practice the kinds of things leaders say and do. On an everyday basis, Harbor Hills' Leaders-in-Training learn how to:

  • Take the initiative.
  • Be a role model for younger children.
  • Collaboratively problem-solve and manage conflict.
  • Motivate others.
  • Develop and implement a creative vision.
  • Organize and plan.
  • Be part of a high-performing team and understand team roles.

Harbor Hills' senior staff meet with LITs on a daily basis to assist LITs in reaching their summer goals. Strong friendships and mentoring relationships are formed as a result of working closely together on a dedicated team. A personal interview is part of the application process.
